212A42, also known as EN8DM, is a medium carbon steel with reasonable tensile strength.

It is a free-machining version of 080M40, or EN8, for applications requiring superior properties than mild steel. Readily machinable in any condition, 212A42 is used to manufacture axles, shafts, studs, bolts, and automotive parts. It can be heat treated for further surface hardening to produce components with enhanced wear resistance.
