080M40, also known as EN8, is a medium carbon steel with reasonable tensile strength, for applications requiring superior properties than mild steel.
Readily machinable in any condition, 080M40 is used to manufacture axles, shafts, studs, bolts, and automotive parts. It can be heat treated for further surface hardening to produce components with enhanced wear resistance. In such cases the use of 080A42 / EN8D may be advisable.
